Lamont Bishop art gallery is DC’s only venue dedicated to pop surrealist art, and is owned by two young African American entrepreneurs. It combines night life with fine arts, and is a platform for new and established artists.

Designed for Extinction is a solo exhibition featuring the paintings of Los Angeles-based artist Todd Schorr, a leading figure in the world of Pop Surrealism and the “lowbrow.” Schorr is undeniably inspired by Renaissance masters such as Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel, and Salvador Dali, as well as the early animated cartoons of Walt Disney and Max Fleischer, underground comics best exemplified by Zap, and classic films from the 1930′s such as King Kong and Frankenstein. His highly polished, fantastic paintings are intricate narratives about evolution and the plight of man.

Inspired by the fresh and unpretentious style of Beijing’s urban youth, ZhangXin is set out to launch her story lines in her Art, like the latest “Alice in Fashion Land”. With financial backing from her friends, they commissioned her to design a shoe line and local seamstress to make a handful of coats and dresses following futuristic street fashion. Her fresh youthful and joyous vision combined with her interpretation of the cultural bridge between European styles has delighted fashion followers around. Unfortunately I did not have a media pass for this event and was not allowed to film a short interview consisting of a few questions put together by some of his fans. I did however have the opportunity to experience his incredible work close up and speak with the man himself.
