Cartoon Character Design

I came across “The Modifyers” while searching for reference materials for a certain project for my Character Design class. It’s only one episode since it’s a pilot for a cartoon that never got accepted, but it was so much fun to watch that I decided to make a music video for it, and the most fitting music I could find was the opening theme for the OVA series “Read Or Die” (composed by Taku Iwasaki). I used the short TV length version since I don’t have the free time to make anything longer. If you guys like what you see, you can watch the whole cartoon here. vimeo.com “The Modifyers” animated pilot created by Chris Reccardi and Lynne Naylor for Nickelodeon. Direction/Music Score by Chris Reccardi, Character design/Concept by Lynne Naylor. Pilot copyright 2007 Nickelodeon.

==** WATCH IN HD QUALITY **== TODAYS GAME — TOMORROWS WAR “Watch a 12-year-old take evasive action and score multiple hits while playing ‘Space Invaders,’ and you will appreciate the skills of tomorrows pilot” — Ronald Reagan, US President, 1983 Games and militarism have a long intertwined history. Most games, from board games to backyard games, have essentially been about conflict and warfare. Today, young people are exposed to video games, an ambitious technology of modernity. Studies show that the uniquely interactive, engaging nature of video games is especially powerful in shaping players thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Young players with low self-esteem choose games as an escape to the virtual world where they experience mastery and control with no consequences in the real world. A dark side of video games is that they are far more realistic and violent than their gaming predecessors. Also, unlike the violence in other media such as TV and movies, video games allow players not simply to witness the violence, but to participate in it. By teaching players how to kill, and by glamorizing murder, violent video games desensitize gamers to the pain and suffering of others. The video game culture is so powerful and influential on youth today that it is not surprising that militaries around the world use video games as recruitment tools. Played by kids, they share the same technology as military simulators that train soldiers to wage war. Even though the line between

The US Midterm Elections in Taiwanese Animation: Surf’s Up for Boxer, Brown Zaps Whitman, Elephants Stomp Donkeys
Once again, Taiwan’s NMA uses animation to clarify what’s happening in the U.S. of A., and today they’ve released their breakdown of yesterday’s Midterm Elections . Overall, the Donkeys get a hefty spanking from the Elephants, and some high-profile, hotly-contested races get the CGI treatment. For California, Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown lock lightning bolts; Whitman, the losing candidate, gets …

Little Green Man – 3D animated short film

Made in Autodesk Maya 2008, composited in Adobe After Effects CS3 and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. My first CG film, and first experience of CGI in general, so please excuse the awkward animation, and visuals. The story follows Jeff, a small disproportional alien whose job is to control the weather on earth, but unfortunately struggles to find it entertaining enough to stay awake, leading to a very messy situation… The film was for a final major project at university, I had 4 months to come up with the idea and how it would look, and 4 months to make it. I tried to stick to a simple idea that could still be entertaining, and which wouldn’t be too hard to make. Unfortunately it got to the point where I needed to learn how to use 3D software or draw it, so I set about learning Maya at the end of January. The basic knowledge came from a book, whilst the rest I discovered for myself. Animated short film

In celebration of the greatest athletic achievement by a man on a psychedelic journey, No Mas and artist James Blagden proudly present the animated tale of Dock Ellis’ legendary LSD no-hitter. In the past few years we’ve heard all too much about performance enhancing drugs from greenies to tetrahydrogestrinone, and not enough about performance inhibiting drugs. If our evaluation of the records of athletes like Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, Marion Jones, and Barry Bonds needs to be revised downwards with an asterisk, we submit that that Dock Ellis record deserves a giant exclamation point. Of the 263 no-hitters ever thrown in the Big Leagues, we can only guess how many were aided by steroids, but we can say without question that only one was ever thrown on acid. Sadly, the great Dock Ellis died last December at 63. A year before, radio producers Donnell Alexander and Neille Ilel, had recorded an interview with Ellis in which the former Pirate right hander gave a moment by moment account of June 12, 1970, the day he no-hit the San Diego Padres. Alexander and Ilels original four minute piece appeared March 29, 2008 on NPRs Weekend America. When we stumbled across that piece this past June, Blagden and Isenberg were inspired to create a short animated film around the original audio. www.nomas-nyc.com buy Rufus Thomas (Do The) Push and Pull – Part I and II here: bit.ly

Sonata – An Animated Short Film

Sonata is an animated short film about a brief and fleeting moment in a man’s life. He must face his fears and doubts and decide whether or not to take a chance. This was my final thesis while attending Vancouver Film School. I created everything from script to finished film. The music is by Yann Tierson and can be found on the soundtrack for Amélie. It is entitled: “Comptine d’un autre été: l’après-midi”. In the final version of this film, due to usage rights, a separate piece of music was specifically composed for the film.
