4th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art 2011- “REWRITING WORLDS”

For the Moscow Biennale 2011, the concept of REMOTEWORDS is being expanded into a virtual game: a large-scale, individually accessible satellite picture of the exhibition premises (TSUM) invites each visitor to cover one roof with a message. The statements are forthwith applied to the satellite picture. By means of REMOTEWORDS’ blog, virtual visitors from around the world can contribute statements on issues such as urbanity, navigation, digitality, virtual simulation and city (urban) space. At predetermined times, remote-controlled drones will fly over the 15 x 8 m walk-around satellite picture. The pilotless aircraft is equipped with a CCTV system that, during its flight, relays live images of the area below onto a projection wall. The live image is practically indistinguishable from a real flyover-video of Moscow. Curator: Peter Weibel

Zaha Hadid Architects-Lois Richard Rosenthal Centerfor Contemporary Art

PROGRAM: Temporary exhibition space, performance space, educational facility, offices, art preparation areas, and museum store CLIENT: The Contemporary Arts Center Ohio, USA SIZE: 8500 m² CONCEPT: The first free-standing building for The Contemporary Arts Center, founded in Cincinnati in 1939 as one of the first institutions in the United States dedicated to the contemporary visual arts. The new CAC building will provide spaces for temporary exhibitions, site-specific installations, and performances, but not for a permanent collection. Other program elements include an education facility, offices, art preparation areas, a museum store, a cafe and public areas. To draw in pedestrian movement from the surrounding areas and create a sense of dynamic public space, the entrance, lobby and lead-in to the circulation system are organized as an ‘Urban Carpet’. Starting at the corner of Sixth and Walnut, the ground curves slowly upward as it enters the building, rising to become the back wall. As it rises and turns, this Urban Carpet leads visitors up a suspended mezzanine ramp through the full length of the lobby, which during the day functions as an open, day-lit, ‘landscaped’ expanse that reads as an artificial park. The mezzanine ramp continues to rise until it penetrates the back wall, on the other side of which it becomes a landing at the entrance to the galleries.

The advent of contemporary Aboriginal art, flowering in a small desert community 250km west of Alice Springs and spreading out across the sands, rock holes and gibber plains into galleries around the globe over the past 40 years, is often referred to as the renaissance of the world’s oldest living art tradition.

“With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility” New Works By Urban Contemporary Artist C.Kirk

In my latest series of paintings With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility, my art has become much more introspective where as in the past, social relevance was a key theme. Popular imagery still has a place in the composition, but the new paintings focus more on my all-too-human defects of character, faulty perception, and skewed sense of humor. The primary focus in this new series is my comic-style characters. Hand drawn and painted on paper, they are later cut out and collaged onto canvas, with hand painted magazine style text, additional collage, and stenciled background imagery. Despite their costumes and good intentions, my characters are overcome by the desires that exist in us all to some extent. Their instincts Led astray and hit rock bottom themes make these Heroes grand examples of self will run riot.
