I was interviewed in national TV by Univision’s “Despierta America” morning news show about my cartoon character t-shirt called “Bring Out Your Happy”. I think the reporter represented very well the super fun spirit of my tees and my characters , their stories printed on the back and the music that comes with it. Great piece! And at last! The 7UP TV commercial animated by Aleloop of the delicious all natural new 7UP for the Latino market in the United States. This TV commercial is a mix of live action and animation -my specialty- with a wonderful soundtrack by the beautiful Denise Gonzalez (she sings awesome). Shot in Mexico and produced in the States and Argentina this TV commercial shows how the animated world of the new All Natural 7UP comes into our ‘reality’.
During the amazing week I spend in DF, Mexico City, we shot 2 commercials actually (plus 2 music videos that I’m currently working on). This is the second commercial we shot. We spent 2 days – 18-20 hour days!- shooting each commercial and music video for each brand: 7up and Dr Pepper (see in the posting below) for the Snapple Group.
This TV commercial is more complex than the Dr Pepper commercial because the live action characters interact a lot more with the animation. Originally, the final shot was in the “Sevenisima” animated world where the family was completely immersed in the animation. You’ll be able to see that fully when we are done with the Music Video for this 7up product, because it happens entirely in the animated world.
We shot almost the entire commercial in green and blue screen. Why we shot using both colors? Read below:
When to choose Blue Screen over Green Screen?
In is TV commercial we had a lot of shots in studio where we needed to separate the live action characters from their background (to place them in post production into the animated world), so we shot those takes using Green Screen for background. We used Green Screen because we didn’t have any clothing or objects that contained that color, so it’s a good color to create good keys. But, in some shots, when the 7up can or bottle where in the screen, we had to be very careful to not have it alone against the green background, because the 7up can & bottle are green! And keying properly green on green it’s very tedious and hard to achieve. So for the shots were we had 7up cans, bottles and anything else green like tree branches, we used Blue Screen as a background instead.
I love when the live action characters interact with the animated world because it makes the spot magical and I love that.
